GTS Pōwhiri

This morning we had a school Pōwhiri. Here is Team Koru’s shared writing recount about it.

Tangata whenua [people already at GTS] were waiting in the hall. Te Awhina led a karanga. We the manuhiri [visitors] walked carefully towards the hall. When we walked inside the other kids did the haka powhiri. We sat down. The tangata whenua did their korero [speeches], and sang a waiata. Then Matua Talen did his korero and then he and Te Awhina did a waiata. Then our whanau did the hongi together, connecting manuhiri and tangata whenua as one. Together we then did the school song.

Here is a video of our school Waiata.
