Kawa of Care!

We have been working hard on learning our Kawa of Care this term. We have been trying really hard to remember our ipad rules, but we are having a tricky time remembering them. We decided to make a poster to help us remember our Kawa of Care.

Shape Monsters!

We love monsters in Team Koru! Our teaches gave us a challenge to create a monster using shapes. We learnt the names of common shapes.

We planned our shape monsters using our foam shapes first.

We then drew our shape monsters.

Kylie’s shape monsters is made using a hexagon, 2 squares, 3 rectangles, 2 circles and 2 triangles. Marcus used hexagons, triangles, rectangles, squares and circles to make his shape monster.

What shapes would you use to make a shape monster?

Learning our Letters

This term, we have been working hard to learn our letters and the sound they make. In Room 7’s nest class we have been doing lots of art activities to help us learn our focus letter and the sound it makes.

‘e’ is for egg!

‘t’ is for tree!

‘n’ is for nest and nine. We put Nine eggs into our nest.

What words can you think of that start with /e/, /t/ or /n/?

Healthy Active Learning!

One of our focuses for this year is Healthy Active Learning! We have loved learning lots of different active games this term. We love healthy active learning because it teaches us Team Work, gets us moving and is FUN!

Here is a photo of Caleb is playing one of our favourite games island hopping.

What are your favourite Healthy Active learning games that you play in your class?

‘Stepping Out’ with Constable T

This week in Team Koru Constable T came into school to teach us how to be safe. We learnt how to safety cross the road and to look out for sneaky driveways!

GTS Pōwhiri

This morning we had a school Pōwhiri. Here is Team Koru’s shared writing recount about it.

Tangata whenua [people already at GTS] were waiting in the hall. Te Awhina led a karanga. We the manuhiri [visitors] walked carefully towards the hall. When we walked inside the other kids did the haka powhiri. We sat down. The tangata whenua did their korero [speeches], and sang a waiata. Then Matua Talen did his korero and then he and Te Awhina did a waiata. Then our whanau did the hongi together, connecting manuhiri and tangata whenua as one. Together we then did the school song.

Here is a video of our school Waiata.

Have you been to a Pōwhiri before?
